How (not) to choose a lawyer for an injury claim
You're injured in an accident. You need a lawyer.
What do you do?
You might "google" for "injury claim" or "compensation".
What do you get?
Well you don't get us for a start. In fact you'd be very lucky to find a solicitor listed at all on the first dozen or so search results.
Why?
Because these days the world is populated by so called claims management companies. Most of these aren't actually solicitors at all. You know the sort of thing: adverts on daytime telly and in the papers:
Finger trapped in door...? Saucepan stuck on head...? Tripped over the cat...? Driven out of the garage without opening the door...? Got out of bed on the wrong side...?
So, how do they find the money to advertise on telly and to get to the top of the search engine rankings? Well they sell cases like yours to solicitors. And the solicitors buy them, sometimes paying £800 or more per case. So when you call their free phone number or submit your claim online, you're not contacting a lawyer. You are "a lead", and it is "the lead" that is sold on to a solicitor and only after that will you be contacted by the proper lawyer.
Trouble is, that lawyer might be the other end of the country to you, and you've had little or no say in choosing "your" solicitor. But by this time it's largely a done deal. Unless you have the energy to start the process of finding a lawyer again.
So why do lawyers buy cases in this way?
Daft isn't it. Well, we did it for a little while, in a small way. But then we thought, why don't we spend a fraction of what we were paying these management companies to try and persuade the likes of you to come to us direct? In other words to persuade people to WANT to use us, rather than being saddled with us with no choice in the matter.
